Our Story
This store is built to honor the idea of seeking happiness beyond all immeasurable challenges. Raised by a loving family filled with pioneering women in the fields of education, community leadership, and 3 generations of gift shop owners, I was strongly influenced by an unparallel love for humanity, children, elders, and those in need. Partnered with this upbringing and my own inherent love for color, music, art, energy, and imagination, this is what has paved the way for what you see today. However, just as all journeys are, it would not be possible to get from point A to point C without first going through point B. So, it is only through great adversity that great courage has led to the inception of this store; and as such, the harshness of reality struck at my front door. As my mother could no longer stay as cancer took her away.
A woman of incredible humor, sense of responsibility, and work ethic, I chose to name the store rooted in the seeds she planted in me. She was of English decent and so is the origin of the word Daisy. Ten years after her passing, my husband was diagnosed and survived neck cancer, and 2 months after his year of treatment I myself was plagued with a year of battling breast cancer. Through this journey, we have remained faithful, hopeful, and grateful. We experienced a rebirth as survivors and emerged with the characteristics beknown to that of a Daisy; pure, innocent and joyful. Maius is the Latin root word that the Greek goddess of growth’s name (Maia) is derived, and this is what I aspire to be, do, and wish for the 18 million cancer survivors across America today and 32 million worldwide; that we may grow in our faith and freedom, that we may continue this journey of life enlightened with the knowledge that each day we have is an opportunity to love one another, give back to our community, and share our strength with those who need a little bit of that light themselves. Through the process of recovery, self-discovery emerged and through that, a will to share the gift of hope through sentiment and reflection has opened the doors to what is now Daisy Maius. We welcome you to find a gift you love for the ones you love to spread the love, happy shopping!
